304 Not Modified — backend confirmed our If-Modified-Since cache. Healthy.

404 — backend hasn't produced this file yet. Common on first boot before mix completes.

Non-2xx/3xx/4xx response — backend is reachable but returning the wrong code.

IOException during the request — backend unreachable at network layer.

Other exception (URI parse, etc.).
