Soulbind

The Soulbind enchantment links all EliteMobs loot to the players the loot drops for. This means that each player gets their own reward from killing an Elite Mob, making sharing loot a non-issue.

How Soulbind Works

Players are unable to pick up loot that isn't soulbound to them from the floor. They can pick items up from chests (standard Minecraft behavior allows chest transfers), but cannot use items soulbound to other players.

This is so players don't accidentally clog up each other's chests with unmovable items.

Visual Indicators

When soulbound items are dropped on the ground, a hologram displays above them showing the owner's name. This hologram:

  • Appears 3 seconds after the item is dropped
  • Follows the item if it moves
  • Lasts for 5 minutes or until the item is picked up
  • Helps players quickly identify which items belong to them

Prestige Rank Integration

This enchantment is meant to be used in conjunction with the guild tier loot limiter.

Soulbound items store the player's prestige rank when the item is bound. Items can only be used by players who:

  1. Are the original owner (UUID match), OR
  2. Have the same prestige rank as when the item was bound

This prevents players from sharing high-tier items across different prestige levels, maintaining game balance and progression.

Unbinding Items

Player Unbinding

Players can remove soulbind from an item by using an Unbind Scroll:

  1. Use the /em unbind command to open the unbind menu (requires permission: elitemobs.unbind.command)
  2. Place the soulbound elite item in the menu
  3. Place an Unbind Scroll in the menu
  4. Confirm the unbinding process
  5. The unbound item will return to your inventory or drop if your inventory is full

Note: You can only unbind items that are soulbound to you. The unbind menu will validate ownership before allowing the process.

Note: The /em unbind command may teleport you to the Adventurer's Guild hub instead of immediately opening the menu, depending on your server configuration.

Admin Unbinding

Server administrators can remove soulbind from items using the /em unbind command (requires permission: elitemobs.unbind.command).

Administrators with the elitemobs.soulbind.bypass permission can use any soulbound item regardless of the original owner or prestige rank. This is useful for testing or administrative purposes.

Configuration

Like all enchantments, it can be disabled in the enchantments folder (soulbind.yml, set isEnabled to false), though this is strongly not recommended.

Issues Caused by Disabling Soulbind

Disabling soulbind will cause significant game balance issues:

  • Players can give diamond or netherite gear out for free to everyone with a minimal amount of grinding
  • The economy will instantly break, allowing veteran players to powerboost players instantly through dozens of ranks
  • The loot limiter will no longer work, meaning that players will be able to just wear the armor and weapons of the highest tier players

Warning: Disabling soulbind is strongly discouraged as it fundamentally breaks the EliteMobs progression and economy systems.
